mistaGROOVE.co.uk This is a timeless classic that will get the 2010 FIFA World Cup party dancing. This great song is featured in the Honda Accord Crosstour commercial.
Great song, great singer. Indeed. Why was this not the official World Cup song. what were the organisers thinking? I thought I was the only one inthe world who was shouting at the TV for chosing that other song and singer. Miriam Makeba is synonomous with S Africa, in pretty much the same way as Nelson Mandela.
Sounds like “The Lion Sleeps Tonight (WImoweh)” Same chord progressions…but I guess it makes sense since it was originally a Zulu song ["Mbube"], also covered by Miriam Makeba
@RCT3Junkee Well said HerrRoehrich. Also, the song is a complete rip-off of another melody by Las Chicas Del Can (watch?v=Lm0gvm7DfwE). Why would a song orginally called “El Negro No Puede” (one possible translation: the black guy can’t do it) be used as the official song for the South African World Cup? Whether or not you think she helps ‘other Bolivians’ is trivial. She certainly helped herself to a few million dollars for plagiarising the “Waka Waka”!
@RCT3Junkee
1. He didn’t call Shakira a “shit”, he said her song was trash – which it is.
2. Shakira is Colombian, not Bolivian.
3. Why did they have a Colombian do the song for a World Cup in South Africa , when there are enough great South African artists who would have done just as well (or probably better)?
4. The fact that a pop trash song like Waka Waka was chosen just shows that the WC is all about commercialism.
5. A song by “Mama Afrika” (i.e. this one) would have been a great gesture
@sleinad Perhaps that’s because the Song from Shakira was actually made for the World Cup in Africa (Its surname: “this time for africa” might prove it) and this is a Song from 1967 like written in the song itself…
and by the way, you can’t really call Shakira a shit and compare it with this song because it easily is another music style…
and please don’t call a bolivian girl who made her dream of a musician come true and therefore helps her fellows in Bolivia a shit, she helps the people.
Great, thanks, I love to hear great international sounds like this, a timeless classic, and I DARE you to not smile while you listen!! thanks, Mistagroove1
